Is Your Cat Getting More and More Chubby?

This is Raja, our overweight cat!

Raja started out a reasonably svelte 12 lbs when we got her from a local shelter at age 7. Then, barely 2 years later, she was up to a hefty 15 lbs!

Diet cat foods were no help. Then, I happened to read a book: "Your Cat, Simple New Secrets To A Longer, Stronger Life" and it changed everything.

We invite you to follow our quest for a healthy weight-loss plan for this funny, personable and very talkative cat.

Hopefully, together we can help all our cats live healthier and thinner lives!

Surprise Young Again Cat Food Replacement Offer!

Recently, I received the following email from Jennifer Gruba, National Sales Manager Young Again Pet Food in reply to your concerns about soft stools occurring with Young Again Zero Carbohydrate Cat Food.

Apparently Young Again had a supply change with their Guar Gum and have now rectified the problem.

In addition, Jennifer is offering free replacement cat food for any of you who were not satisfied with the Young Again cat food you purchased!

Please read the following email in is entirety since she describes the soft-stool problem and Young Again's solution as well as the procedure for receiving your replacement food at no cost.

Here's the email I received from Jennifer:

Hi Tom,

I have been following your blog for sometime and enjoy the information that you share and the comments from your readers.

I of course have noticed the posts in regards to our Zero Carb food. We would like to let you know that we have taken three calls in the past 2 weeks regarding cats that have a softer than normal stool while eating the Young Again ZERO Carb formula. We have also searched a few other blogs and discovered a few other clients who are experiencing the same issue.

It appears that a very small percentage of cats do not tolerate the new gum. We have now secured a permanent supply of the guar gum and would like to offer a replacement bag for any concerned client.

There is no harm being caused by the softer stool but it can be a little messy. If you know of any concerned person please have them contact me. We are very proactive and our clients satisfaction is important to us.

Below, I have included information about the Guar Gum mentioned above. I would also love to discuss our accomplishments for overweight cats like Raja.

We have had huge success in overweight cats losing their excess weight on our foods. I would love to open a dialog with you in regards to this.

Please feel free to contact or email me with any questions that you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!

Here's Part 2 of the email describing the change in Guar Gum in the Young Again formula:

As you may know, we use Guar Gum in our Zero Carb food to replace the carbs. There are a lot of beneficial areas that Guar Gum is linked to in human studies and products.

Some of these include:
  • Use in gluten-free recipes and gluten-free products
  • As Guar Gum is a water-soluble fiber with low digestibility it is a great fiber source.
  • It is said to be effective in promoting regular bowel movements, relieving constipation, and effective for chronic related functional bowel ailments such as diverticulosis, Crohn’s disease, colitis and IBS.
  • Several studies have shown significant decreases in cholesterol levels after guar gum use.
  • Some studies have found guar gum to improve dietary glucose tolerance. The belief is that the water soluble fiber in it may help people with diabetes by slowing the absorption of sugars by the small intestine, helping to moderate the glucose spikes.

Gum was in short supply due to a world wide increase in demand for Human Grade Guar Gum. The substitution we used was a Human Grade gum that was characterized as functionally identical to the guar gum.

However, about 4% of cats are showing some degree of sensitivity to the substituted gum. Although there is no functional difference between the gums it does appear to cause a softer stool in a small percentage of cats. This in no way is harmful to your cat but it can be a little messy, especially on long hair cats.

We have now been able to secure a supply of our original Human Grade Guar Gum and purchased quantities sufficient to prevent this situation from occurring again.

If you believe that your cat may be one of this small group of cats, please contact us and we will replace your food at no cost. We apologize for this inconvenience.
